Chemical or mineral?

Mineral filters like zinc oxide sit on the skin and reflect light; chemical filters absorb UV and turn it into heat. Both work. Mineral formulas tend to suit sensitive skin, while modern chemical formulas are lighter and easier to wear under makeup.

SPF 30 or SPF 50?

SPF 30 blocks around 97% of UVB rays and SPF 50 around 98%. On paper the difference is small — but most people apply far too little, so SPF 50 gives you a useful buffer.

How much to use

Around half a teaspoon for your face and neck — roughly two finger-lengths. Reapply every two hours outdoors, and after swimming or sweating.

The best sunscreen is the one you’ll happily wear every single day.

Why it matters after treatments

Peels, lasers and microneedling leave skin more sensitive to light for weeks. Daily SPF protects your results and lowers the risk of pigmentation.
